23rd December

Today we went around Sliema and Pacevile. I walked around Paceville and observed the people that were there, I even photographed some moments which I think portray my theme accordingly. We also went for a drive afterwards. Since I went out on a weekday there were many less people and I did not think I would see as many people anyways. There were not really a lot of people hanging out, I mostly took someone's  advice and took a look at take away shops. I have also went to the shopping mall but it was late and the games room was empty.

This time I tried a different place and I visited Top of the world in Gharghur with my friends. Unfortunately, there was no light at the location and people stayed in their cars. I decided to focus on my friends instead and play around as much as I can. I also experimented on the drive as I feel that is a huge part of going out. I often think we spend more time driving around in our cars than at the location itself. This time I di not only select the ones were people are present but I also chose the ones which I think one would be able to link them to a night out.

Project Introduction

Youths After Sundown Photograph the Maltese  youth in the  streets. The idea for my assignment is to focus on M altese youths  during the Covid times. I want to go into the  hang outs  and photograph how  youths are spending their time now a days with the new measures that are limiting them for the usual .  With every person photographed I would like to have a chat with them to get their thoughts about the situations we are facing and how it is effecting them.  Experimentation will include me asking  youths were they go out to meet friends or simply relax instead of their usual places.  I will also be going around and photographing just to see if it will be a good project to work on.   As for research, beside the survey, I will be looking into other photographers who worked on a similar project and photographers who have a style I would like to portray. I will also be looking into articles based on  youths during  Covid in...

I went around Ta  Qali  and managed to have a conversation with a group.  I took their portraits and a group photo. I found it very difficult to photograph them because there was not a good amount of light unlike I had at Pama . Because I had to use a slow shutter speed the images came out  slightly blurry. While talking with them, they mentioned that they are usually a big group of  men but with the limitations  they do not meet as often.  Ta  Qali  is not the only location they hang together  in   but they usually find different places.   They enjoy hanging out in open places the more secluded the better.  The usual night out for them would be  Paceville  at a bar called Big G’s. Below are some of the images:
